BULLETIN 41 - COMMUNITY RESOLVE TO FIGHT ON

11 June 2009, 3:28pm

The RTBU launched its Community Campaign on Friday 29th May 2009 at Wollongong Station against the RailCorp’s decision reduce station staffing levels and wind back station operating hours.

150 people attended the launch which included the South Coast Trades and Labor Council, RTBU members and officials and many community groups from far and wide.

The community have made a commitment to continue to campaign against these cuts whether they are implemented or not!!!!

The event drew much local media attention with WIN News Wollongong running the story on the main news that night.

On the day we launched our Local Member Report Cards which outlined to the community how their local members of parliament had failed to provide appropriate Public Transport needs for the local community.

Members at Gosford and Central have begun to meet and organise campaign launches and the RTBU head office is working with these members to ensure they have the resources and support to maximise their success.

Congratulations to the campaigning undertaken by members in the Blue Mountains who have been working for months on minimising the impact of these cuts.

A full list of review outcomes will be forthcoming shortly. Please find below the flyer which can be copied and given to passengers at your station.

Save Our Stations

Our Community Deserves Better

The NSW government are allowing RailCorp to cut staff on stations. Rail workers are joining together with the community to protest these cuts to your services.

The current proposals to reduce operating hours of railway stations overturns the previous government commitment (since 1996) of no changes to operating hours.

These staff cuts have nothing to do with improving your service and everything to do with blatant cost cutting that will result in:

  • Reduced levels of Customer Service
  • Limited or no assistance for elderly and disabled passengers and parents with prams
  • Longer ticket queues
  • More delays
  • More vandals
  • Dirtier stations
  • More assaults and robberies
  • Less service for family groups
YOU CAN HELP, email or call your local member of Parliament and register your protest.

Hold your local member accountable for cuts to your services!!!!!
