BULLETIN NO. 34-STATION REFORM-GOVERNMENT COST CUTTING CONFIRMED

20 May 2009, 2:49pm

RailCorp have now confirmed what rail workers always knew. The current staff review process is nothing more than Government cost cutting.

Staff review outcomes on the South Coast and Illawarra have significantly reduced staff and station hours and have done nothing to deliver sensible reform outcomes or services for the community.

Members on the South Coast and Illawarra are congratulated for their ongoing campaign against these cuts and the input that they have provided our review teams when visiting stations.  The quality of the information given to our teams was outstanding but unfortunately fell on the deaf ears of RailCorp and the Government.

The results are as follows:-

          5 stations unattended.

13 stations with reduced hours of operation

          40 positions cut.

RailCorp's ignorance was such that the dispute results lacked any detail and were written in a generic form.  This confirms workers concerns that it is RailCorp that cannot justify the cuts at each of these stations.

The RTBU will continue to participate in staff reviews to ensure that members are represented and have input into the reviews at their station.  This will stop Management and Government claiming that the Unions refused to defend Station positions and supported their business plans.

The RTBU are now drawing up "Local Members of Parliament Report Cards" specific to each State seat on the Coast and each location will receive them in the coming days.  You are encouraged to hand these out at your local station and, once again, contact these Members of Parliament to show your disgust with their inaction.

The RTBU are now preparing for a sustained media campaign to make sure the community understands that this Government has no interest in delivering customer service.
