RAILCORP GENERAL ORDER No.18 SPADS

Following a significant increase in SPADS in recent weeks as highlighted in RailCorp's General Order No.18, 17th April 2009, the RTBU advises drivers that they need to ensure that their first priority is to safely control the operation of the train at all times.

In recognition of the distraction caused by electronic communications equipment within the cab environment, the RTBU advises all drivers to either wait until they have reached a timetabled stop in order to answer a train radio or PA/intercom call, or immediately stop their train and answer the train radio call, especially if it is an emergency call. This action should further reduce the possibility of SPADS.

Also, drivers are reminded that any briefings in regard to the RailCorp General Order should be carried out at the appropriate times during the shift, (Standby or Report) and not during "sign on" as insufficient time has been allocated to conduct safety briefings
